Year 1 Phonics Screening
During the week commencing 12th June (I know it seems a long way off but it is fast approaching), the children will complete the statutory Year 1 Phonics Screening. The purpose of the phonics screening check is to confirm that all children have learned phonic decoding to an age-appropriate standard. The children will continue to be taught phonics daily, with the introduction of new graphemes (letter representations) and alternative spellings of some of the phonemes (letter sounds) they already know. In order to support your child you may wish to play games. Both of the following sites are used within school so the children are familiar with some of the games, which they really enjoy and help them to become more confident in recognising new graphemes. They should be working from phase 3 up to or beginning phase 5.
