Church Visit – Looking for Symbols
In RE we have been investigating symbols and what they mean to Christians. Today we went to St John’s Church and Reverend Simon showed us some of the symbols and talked about what they mean. The class remembered a lot of them – the cross made us think of Jesus’ death, the poppies were to remember people that had died in the wars. Logan and Amelia remembered that a white dove symbolised peace and they found some lilies which stand for peace too. The class looked at the stained glass windows which told stories about Jesus with bright colours and found fourteen silver pictures on the walls which told another story about Jesus using images. Lots of the children knew that candles symbolised Jesus the light of the world.
